Peters on Success

Formula for success: Underpromise and overachieve.
--Tom Peters Brian Tracy's Quote of the Day

Ward on Encouragement

Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you.
--William Arthur Ward

Peterson on Secret of Greatness

The secret of greatness is simple: do better work than any other man in your field - and keep on doing it.
--Wilfred A. Peterson

Goals

Be a life long or short, its completeness depends on what it was lived for.
--David Starr Jordan

Change by Oprah

Become the change you want to see - those are words I live by.
--Oprah Winfrey

Learning From Failure by Finesilver

You've failed many times, although you don't remember. You fell down the first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim. . . . Don't worry about failure. . . . Worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try.
--Sherman Finesilver , US District Court Judge; quote received from WisdomTips.com

That's a great quote. How true is that? I hear related quotes all the time. The bottom line is, you won't know unless you try, and you're going to miss all of the shots that you don't make.

Lead or Follow by Berkun

The value of a leader is their positive effect on a team, not the force and power they have at their disposal.
--Scott Berkun in his essay, Why you must lead or follow

Wooden on Giving 100%

Now you do understand that if you're not giving 100 percent today, you can't make it up tomorrow
--John Wooden quoted in Leadership Wired, Aug 2005

Zuiderveen on Success

The road of success is like running up an escalator going down, you need to keep running, if you walk, you stand still, if you stop you are going down!
--Anneloes Zuiderveen

Adams on Leadership

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
--John Quincy Adams 1767-1848, 6th
President of the United States

Golden Rules

Live every day as if it were your last. Do every job as if you were the boss. Drive as if all other vehicles were police cars. Treat everybody else as if he were you.
-- WisdomTips.com

Hubbard on Greatest Mistake

The greatest mistake a man can ever make is to be afraid of making one.
--Elbert Hubbard

Gandhi on Happiness

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
--Mohandas Gandhi

Gates on Reading

I spend a lot of time reading. I think getting kids to love reading, any topic is fantastic thing for their future. When I go on vacation I always take way too many books because I am always worried I will run out. That's one of my greatest pleasures.
--Bill Gates during an ABC News interview

I love reading as well. :-) One other thing, read the interview. It's great.

Ann Landres's Advice

If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice for all humanity it would be this:
Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and when it comes, hold your head high, look it squerely in the eye, and say, 'I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.'
--Ann Landres quoted in Life's Greatest Lessons

Green on Experience

In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins: cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later.
--Harold Green

Shakespeare's Wisdom

Love all, trust a few. Do wrong to none.
--William Shakespeare

The Road to Success

The road to success is not straight
There is a curve called failure
A loop called confusion
Speed bumps called friends
Red lights called enemies
Caution lights called family
you'll have flats called jobs
But if you have determination
An engine called perseverance
Insurance called faith
A driver called GOD
You'll make it to a place called SUCCESS!
--Unkown WisdomTips.com

Just Ask

A person who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; a person who never asks is a fool forever.
--Unknown

Rockne on Weakness

Build up your weaknesses until they become your strong points.
--Knute Rockne 1888-1931 American Football Coach

Tracy: Dream Big

All successful men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.
--Brian Tracy

I don't think I need to add any justification for it, except to recommend Brian Tracy's book, Goals. I bought an audio version of it and now I'm actually doing some of the action steps from it -- I see a difference already. Plus, I subscribe to his Personal Success newsletter, which I think is very good.

Random Quote

Perhaps you've noticed, I've updated the Random Quote item by adding new quotes -- most of them, to be exact. I've also included the author of the quote below it, as I think it's important to know who said it. As I'm going to add new quotes to it, I'll try to add the date if it's known and add it as well.

I enjoy reading. I enjoy learning. I enjoy learning from the present and past leaders. A short quote sometimes teaches you more than a whole lecture, or even a book. That's why I like them. I learn from them.

If you have a nice quote, post it below and I might include it in the Random Quote. If you haven't read my short bio, my own quote (or motto) is: live (smart), learn (continuously), and enjoy (have fun). How about that? I've just composed it, by the way, my original was: live, learn and have fun. That's the theme of this main blog (at least that's my goal); the other blogs that I have are on software-engineering (my career), and on investing (that's where my money goes).

Words of Knowledge

If you always do
What you always did
You will always get
What you always got.
-- WisdomTips.com

I think that's a pretty good quote, which I recently came across at WisdomTips.com (a pretty good, usefull site, containing a lot of useful tips).
